1 Corinthians 8: What's At Stake With Steak
The Bible gives us information which has the power to transform our thinking. There are many issues we face today that the Bible does not explicitly address -such as drinking alcohol, dancing, watching TV, playing cards, the music we sing in church, being involved in politics etc. Paul in this passage gives teaching based on the practice of eating meat that had been offered to idols. Some ate it without any conscientious objections, whereas others due their previous association with idol worship could not separate in their minds the steak from the idol.
You can be theologically right and biblically sound in your consideration of a ‘grey issue’ and, at the same time, be wrong and sinful if you flaunt your freedom in front of those who do not have the same liberty in the issue. Love and sensitivity to our brothers and sisters in grey issues comes before the exercising of our personal freedom. We are free, free not to exercise our freedom at the ‘expense’ of our Christian family.
